Customizing Course Home

The Course Home page is the first page students see when they access your course. Customizing the homepage with widgets helps to organize your course information.

Creating and Editing a Course Homepage


  1. Select the desired course from the D2L My Home page.

  2. On the navigation bar, click Edit Course.

  3. In the Site Setup section, click Homepages.

  4. Click Create Homepage.

  5. In the Name text box, type the name of the new homepage.

  6. Optional: In the Description text box, type a description of the homepage.

  7. In the Homepage Type section, click Change Layout to choose a layout that best displays your widgets. When you have made your selection, click Update.

  8. Scroll down to add content and widgets.

  9. Click Save.

Activating a Course Homepage


  1. On the navigation bar, click Edit Course.

  2. In the Site Setup section, click Homepages.

  3. Select the homepage you want to activate from the dropdown menu.

  4. Click Apply.

Deleting a Course Homepage


  1. On the navigation bar, click Edit Course.

  2. In the Site Setup section, click Homepages.

  3. Click the dropdown menu of the homepage you want to delete, select Delete Homepage delete

  4. Click Delete Homepage.

Creating and Editing Widgets


  1. From the Course Home page, on the navigation bar, click Edit Course.

  2. In  the Site Setup section, click Widgets.

  3. Click Create Widget.

  4. In the Name text box, type the desired name.

  5. In the Description text box, type the desired description.

    Note: This description appears in the Manage Widgets pane and is not visible to users.

  6. Click on the Content tab to type the widget content.

  7. Optional: In the Content tab, click Customize Widget Style to change the style of the widget.

  8. Optional: Click on the Release Conditions tab to create or remove release conditions.

  9. Click Save.

Adding and Removing Widgets


  1. Click on the title of your Homepage in the list to view the Edit Homepage pane. Scroll down to view the content and layout settings. 

  2. In the panel in which you want to activate a widget, click Add Widgets.

  3. To add a widget, from the Available Widgets scroll list, select the desired widget and click Add.
    The title of the new widget appears in the widget layout section. Save.

  4. To remove a widget, scroll to the widget layout section of the Edit Homepage pane. Hover over the widget you wish to delete and click the "X" in the upper right-hand corner.

  5. Press Save.
    Note: If you move to another area without saving, your changes will be lost.

Deleting Widgets


Warning: Deleting a widget removes it from all homepages created within the current course. Instructors can only delete custom widgets created in their courses.

  1. From the Course Home page, on the navigation bar, click Edit course.

  2. In the Site Setup section, click Widgets.

  3. In the Actions section, for the desired widget, click delete to delete the widget.

  4. Click Delete.
