Course Builder

Course Builder allows you to create and manage your course in one place for D2L.

Accessing Course Builder


  1. On the Navigation bar, click Content.

  2. Select the Course Builder tab.

  3. The Course Builder welcome page appears. Click the links for more information.

  4. To see the Course Builder Toolbox, click Start.

Creating a Module


The first step in using the Course Builder is to create modules. These are the major units your course is divided into which allow you to organize course materials.

  1. Access the Course Builder welcome page.

  2. In the Build Outline section of the Toolbox on the left, click Create a Modulecreate module

  3. To select a location
    1. For a main module, click on the course name
      OR
    2. For submodules of an existing module, click on the appropriate course module

  4. In the Name text box, type a name for the module.

  5. Click Create.

    Note:  Once modules have been created, you can click and drag the boxes to reorder them.

Add Content


  1. Access the Course Builder welcome page.

  2. Click Start.

  3. In the Add Content section of the Toolbox pane, click the desired button.

  4. Select the name of the desired module.

  5. Fill in the appropriate information.

  6. Click Create.

  7. Optional: Once you have created an object, you can click and drag the boxes to reorder the objects in the modules.

Creating Placeholders


After you have created modules, you can begin to put objects into them, or, you can create a placeholder for an object you are not ready to create.

  1. Access the Course Builder welcome page.

  2. Click Start.  The Toolbox and Course Builder Canvas panes appear.  All your current modules will be listed in the Course Builder Canvas pane under the course name.course builder canvas

  3. To see the objects under a module, click Expand expand

  4. In the Build Outline section of the Toolbox, click the desired button.

  5. Select the desired location.

  6. Optional: In the Name text box, change the object name.

  7. Click Create.

Adding Objects from Browse Objects


  1. Access the Course Builder welcome page.

  2. Click Start.

  3. In the Browse Objects section of the Toolbox pane, click the desired object type.

  4. Navigate to the desired location.

  5. Click the desired object.

  6. Click Add to Course.

  7. Select a location.
