Notifications

The Notifications tool enables you to:

  • Receive instant notifications about course events such as dropbox submissions, discussion messages, and news updates
  • Subscribe to a summary of activity for each course and receive a daily update of course activity
  • Change the notifications options for your courses

In this help document, you will find information about accessing and setting up D2L Notifications:

Access the Notifications Tool 


Do one of the following:

  1. Locate the Personal Menu in the upper right of the rust-colored minibar in D2L. Click on your name and select Notifications from the dropdown menu.

  2. OR: Click the dropdown arrow to the right of the News on your course homepage and select Notifications.

Set up an Email Contact Method


  1. On the Notifications page, choose the Enable email notifications link.

  2. Select your email account preference. You may select Use System Email (your UWEC email account) or Use Custom Email (you must specify another email address).

  3. Continue setting additional options on this page; press Save before leaving this page.

Set up a Text/SMS Contact Method


  1. On the Notifications page, select the Register your mobile link.

  1. The Register Your Mobile dialog box appears; select your country, your mobile carrier and enter your mobile number (with or without dashes).

  2. Press Save.

  3. Another dialog box appears requiring confirmation of your mobile number:

  4. Check for a new text message on your mobile phone; enter the confirmation number from that message in the Confirmation Code field; press Confirm when done.

  5. Continue setting additional options on the Notifications page; press Save before leaving this page.

Subscribe to a Summary of Activity


Note: You must set up your email contact method before you can subscribe to a summary of activity.

  1. On the Notifications page, under the Summary of Activity section, click on the dropdown menu labeled How Often?.

  2. Select Daily from the dropdown menu. You will be prompted to choose the time of day you want to receive your daily digest.

  3. Click on the At what time? text box; a dropdown menu will appear with times in 30-minute increments.

  4. Make your choice and press Save.

Subscribe to Instant Notifications


  1. On the Notifications page, scroll down to the Instant Notifications section.

  2. Click on the checkboxes in either the email column or the SMS column or both for the activities for which you wish to receive instant notifications.

  3. Press Save.

Exclude Courses from Notifications


Students who set up the notification feature will receive notifications from any current courses in which they are enrolled. Students may exclude current courses from sending notifications if preferred.

  1. On the Notifications page, select the Manage my course exclusions link.

  2. Click on the X to the right of a course title to stop receiving notifications from that course; repeat for all courses for which you prefer not to receive notifications. You may click Exclude All Courses to stop all course notifications.

  3. Click on the X in the upper right to close this dialog box.

  4. Press Save at the bottom of the page.

Restore Excluded Courses


  1. On the Notifications page, click the Manage my course exclusions link.

  2. The Manage Course Exclusions dialog box appears. The Restore icon Restore icon displays to the right of all excluded courses.

    1. To begin receiving notifications from a course that was previously excluded, press the Restore icon.

    2. To begin receiving notifications from all courses that were previously excluded, press Restore Excluded Courses.

  3. When finished making changes, press Close at the bottom of the dialog box to return to the Notifications page.

  4. Press Save in the lower left before leaving the Notifications page.

Change Notification Settings


Once you set your notification settings, you can change them at any time by accessing the Notifications link in your Personal Menu on the upper right of any D2L page.

  1. On the far right of the minibar at the top of the page, click on your name. Select Notifications from the dropdown menu.

  2. The Notifications setting window appears. Here you can enable email or text notifications, specify the email or mobile number to sent the notifications to, choose how often to receive notifications, and choose the activities and courses for which you would like to receive notifications. See the specific topics above for more details.

  3. When you are finished editing your settings, press Save.
