During summer of 2012 the previous MyBlugold system was upgraded and moved to an infrastructure hosted by Microsoft SharePoint 2010. The system launched on August 20. The new MyBlugold can be accessed at https://myblugold.uwec.edu. The old system will be kept available for comparison purposes at https://web.uwec.edu/ for a short period of time.
Where can I find my old MyBlugold options?
This new system replaces all previous MyBlugold features. Simply check the home page, or click on the Students or Staff options in the horizontal navigation bar to find the same information you found in the old system. Also, click on the Myblugold A-Z List to see new sites hosted by various departments.
Are there more capabilities?
Yes! MyBlugold is an intranet site dedicated to UW-Eau Claire staff and students. In addition to providing the former MyBlugold options, the new MyBlugold provides information pertinent to various campus audiences. Departments will have the opportunity to publish web pages with static information, as well as provide documents and lists to share with the campus.
In addition, MyBlugold provides a digital workplace where documents can be stored and cross-functional teams can participate in projects. Multiple offices have already tried using the digital workplace capabilities utilizing SharePoint 2007, an older version of the software. Those workplaces will be migrated to the new infrastructure so all content can be conveniently in one place.
Great! When can I get started?
While a simple MyBlugold intranet site can be set up rather quickly after initial training takes place, we are just starting to migrate the older SharePoint 2007 sites to the new server. Hopefully those will be finished before the end of the fall semester, so we can concentrate on moving ahead with new sites in early spring. While we are able to fit in a few new sites, there is likely to be a waiting period while we are getting previous departments set up. But, don't give up hope! We're moving forward!
Can I get in line now?
New sites will be evaluated in terms of their complexity, hard deadline dates, and the order in which they were requested. If you feel you have a need for a potential MyBlugold site, please contact the LTS Help Desk at 36-5711. Someone will work with you to complete an initial 'discovery' document to specify what you are trying to accomplish and determine whether the MyBlugold SharePoint or some other tool will be the best answer to your needs.
