Paul Hoff and Nuria Hoff have authored a set of 15 practice tests for the textbook "Mosaicos: Spanish as a World Language," fifth edition, Pearson Education, 2009. The tests are available online to instructors and students using "Mosaicos" at MySpanishLab.com.
Paul Hoff and Nuria Hoff have written four new books, "Aventura 3: Grammar and Vocabulary Exercises," "Aventura 3: Grammar and Vocabulary Exercises (Teacher's Edition)," "Aventura 2: Grammar and Vocabulary Exercises" and "Aventura 2: Grammar and Vocabulary Exercises (Teacher's Edition)," which were published by EMC Publishing. Paul Hoff also was a contributing writer to the "Aventura 3" textbook.
José Valero had his book review of Oscar Pereira Zazo's "De cómo el Libro de Buen Amor llegó a serlo: la canonización del Libro del Arcipreste de Hita (1754-1913)" published in La Corónica: A Journal of Medieval Hispanic Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Vol. 37, No. 2, 2009, pages 205-208. The reviewed work is a reception history of the "Book of True Love," a medieval Castillian masterpiece.

Dr. Paul Hoff gave an invited presentation on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview at the Concordia Language Villages CLVisa Workshop Feb. 2-3 in Minneapolis. The workshop was designed to compare and align the CLVisa language assessment with components of several other assessment documents, including the NCSSFL LinguaFolio, the European Language Portfolio, the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines (speaking), and the ACTFL Performance Guidelines for K-12 Learners.
Events and Awards
Dale Omtvedt Gable and Teresa Carrión-Valenzuela, a native Spanish speaker and educator, will lead a new Spanish language book club at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in downtown Eau Claire. Books written in Spanish will be discussed from 7-8:30 p.m. during the third Tuesday evening of each month beginning June 15 and continuing through Sept. 21.
Dr. Manuel Fernández has received a Cristóbal Díaz Ayala Music Collection Travel Grant to conduct research on the the musical productions of the Cuban community in Miami, Fla., primarily during the 1960s and 1970s. The collection is housed at Florida International University in Miami.
Manuel Fernández received the Raquel Kersten Professional Research Award for research dealing with Latin American studies for his presentation titled "Cuba 'Underground': Los Aldeanos, Cuban Hip-Hop and Youth Culture" at the 2009 North Central Council of Latin Americanists Conference Oct. 1-3 at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
Paul Hoff has been named a master oral proficiency tester by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. The designation is based on experience, consistency and accuracy in conducting and rating oral proficiency interviews in Spanish for Language Testing International.
