Advising Forms

Pre-professional study prepares a student to transfer to another institution for the completion of a professional or graduate degree. These programs are not majors, minors, or certificate programs. Because the specific requirements of professional schools vary considerably, students should obtain current academic catalogues from the schools in which they are interested. The Department of Kinesiology offers pre-professional programs in the following areas:

UW - Eau Claire 2012-13 Undergraduate Catalog
Department of Kinesiology 2010-11 Undergraduate Catalog section

Athletic Training

Coaching Minor

Human Performance Emphasis

The Human Performance Emphasis is intended to prepare students to work in clinical, commercial, corporate, and community health fitness settings.  Formal application to the Human Performance Emphasis should be made during the second year (either Fall or Spring) of attendance while enrolled in KINS 309, Introduction to Human Performance.

Movement Studies

The Movement Studies emphasis is liberal arts major.  It shares the same 4 core courses as other Kins emphases.  Students are preparing for similar professions as the human performance emphasis.  A minor outside of the department is required for graduation.

Pre-Chiropractic

The pre-chiropractic program is intended to prepare students for admission into a chiropractic college. Most accredited chiropractic colleges prefer that students earn a baccalaureate degree before beginning, or concurrently enrolling with, their chiropractic training. Because the specific requirements for admission vary slightly among different chiropractic colleges, students should consult the catalogues from those colleges while planning their courses.

Pre-Occupational Therapy

The pre-occupational therapy program is intended to prepare students for admission into a graduate program in occupational therapy. Most occupational therapy programs are now at the graduate level. Students should plan on completing a baccalaureate degree before applying to occupational therapy graduate programs. Because the specific requirements for admission vary slightly among different occupational therapy graduate programs, students should consult the catalogues from those colleges while planning their courses.

Pre-Physical Therapy

The pre-physical therapy program is intended to prepare students for admission into a graduate program in physical therapy. Most physical therapy programs are now at the graduate level. Students should plan on completing a baccalaureate degree before applying to physical therapy graduate programs. Because the specific requirements for admission vary slightly among different physical therapy graduate programs, students should consult the catalogues from those colleges while planning their courses.

Physical Education Teaching Emphasis

The Physical Education emphasis is intended to prepare students to become certified physical educators from Early Childhood to Adolescence (K-12).  The Adapted Physical Education certification is included within the emphasis and an additional Health Education certification is also available for students interested in teaching health.
