February 2006 Newsletter
February 10, 2006 :: Kyle Zahler, editor :: 1st Edition
We hope that you’re excited to be back and ready to exercise. The
students are looking forward to getting to know all of you! Dr. Lance
Dalleck has been working hard to make some improvements to the program
over break. The Filemaker computer program for exercise prescriptions
is working much better. Each student will be able to update your program
weekly to use on clipboards during your exercise routine. Dr. Dalleck
would like to remind everyone that this program is geared toward being
an educational experience for both students and participants. This semester’s
students are prepared to perform various assessments aimed
towards improving your overall health and exercise program. We invite
you to enthusiastically participate in all of these tests and greatly
appreciate your willingness to serve as the first clients for many of
our students! Please share with Dr. Dalleck, Dr. Bredle, or your student
if you do not wish to participate in any/all of the assessments for any
reason whatsoever. We look forward to great semester!

Information for the new participants….
If you are wondering where the pool, locker room, weight
room, or lab are just ask your assigned student or any
participant and I’m sure they will be glad to help!
» Don’t Forget
Please remember to bring clean shoes as the weather is sloppy in the
winter and we would like to keep the track clean. Also,
don’t forget
to bring some form of ID for the weight room. Talk to Dr.
Bredle or Dr. Dalleck to sign up for your free community fitness program
t-shirt.
» Winter Olympics
The 2006 Winter Olympics will begin today in Torino, Italy. Eighty four
medals will be given during the 17 days of the Olympic Games. Seven sports
events are represented including: Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Curling, Ice Hockey,
Luge, Skating and Skiing. Nearly 40,000 people have applied to volunteer
with 350 activities throughout the 17 days. The opening ceremonies will
start at 7pm tonight. For more information on the Olympics you can check

» Something Interesting
Beginning next week Dr. Dalleck will be working with five students on
an energy expenditure study. The purpose of the study is to examine the
relationship between energy expenditure relative to body mass and the
health benefits. Approximately 30 subjects consisting of 18 to 45 year
old women will take part in the study. They too will be walking on the
track at 6am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays although they will meet
on the south end of the track rather than the north end where the community
fitness members meet. Feel free to walk and talk with these individuals
as you share the track throughout the semester. Please remember that they
will have to follow guidelines to walk or run at a certain pace though.
