TrueCrypt is free open-source disk encryption software that maintains an encrypted library of data. It is installed on all UW-Eau Claire computers.
What is TrueCrypt?
Files can be copied to and from a TrueCrypt volume; those files are automatically encrypted right before they are saved and decrypted before they are loaded. No data that is stored on an encrypted volume can be read unless you enter the correct password or keyfile. The files stored in TrueCrypt will be held on your computer's memory (RAM), and are only accessible when TrueCrypt is mounted. Alternatively, you can save the volume on an outside device, such as a USB drive.
