While on campus, Windows computers will automatically connect to your H: drive and the W: drive (deptdir) upon login.  Here is how to connect (map) to other drives.

Mapping a Network Drive on Campus


  1. Click StartStart » click Computer on the right side.

  2. In the Computer window, click Map Network Drive.

  4. In the Folder text box, type the server name.
    See common server names in the table below.
    Optional: From the Drive pull-down list, select the appropriate letter for the drive you are mapping.
    Example: If you are mapping to your department share, select the S: drive. However, in most cases other letters will work.

    Instructor and Student Drive (W:) \\students.uwec.edu\deptdir
    Media Drive \\media.uwec.edu\sharename$
    Departmental Software Drive (J:) \\students.uwec.edu\software$
    Archive Drive \\mass.uwec.edu\archive$


  1. Optional: To preserve this mapping each time you log on, select Reconnect at logon.

  2. Click Finish.
    The drive is mapped and ready to be accessed.

  3. If prompted, to connect to the newly mapped drive, type your username and password » click OK.

Disconnecting a Network Drive


  1. In the Computer window, right click on the network drive you wish to disconnect.

  2. From the list, select Disconnect.
