Web Access (Off-Campus)

Students, faculty, and staff can securely access their H: drives or the W: Drive from any web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.

Note: You do not need a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection when using these methods to access your H: drive, even from off-campus.

Via the Web: Read/Write

This method provides Internet access to your H: drive and is a read/write method. You can open, edit, save, create, and delete files just as if they were in a folder on your local computer. This method allows you to access your H: drive files and save your changes back onto the H: drive. Once the files and folders appear, you can drag and drop files from your computer to your H: drive.

First Time Access

  1. Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.

  2. Type the appropriate URL:
    Faculty: https://staff.uwec.edu
    Students: https://students.uwec.edu

  3. The Connect to dialog box appears.

  4. In the User Name text box, type your UWEC email address.
    Example:
    doej@uwec.edu

  5. In the Password text box, type your password.

  6. Click OK.
The files and folders on your H: drive appear.

Subsequent Access

Once you have connected to your H: drive by opening it as a web folder, the location of the web folder is stored in My Network Places and can be easily accessed in the future.

  1. From the Desktop, double click My Network Places.
The My Network Places window opens.

  2. From the Folders list, click USERNAME ON STAFF.UWEC.EDU OR USERNAME ON STUDENTS.UWEC.EDU.
The Connect to dialog box appears.

  3. In the User name text box, type your username@uwec.edu
    Example: doej@uwec.edu

  4. In the Password text box, type your password.

  5. Click OK.
The files and folders on your H: drive appear.
You may now make changes and save files to your H: drive by using the desired method (e.g., drag and drop).
