Installing Software on Office Computers


Advertised programs is a way for Learning and Technology Services to allow individual users to easily and quickly install certain software on their UW-Eau Claire computer, even if the user is not an administrator on their computer. Below are instructions for Windows and Mac on how to install advertised programs based on your operating system.

Windows 7


  1. Close down all other programs.
    Note: If other programs are running, there may be problems with the installation.

  2. Go to the Start menu » click Control Panel.

  3. If your screen looks like the image below, click the word Programs (in green) » choose Run Advertised Programs (32-bit).

    If you see a long list instead, find and click Run Advertised Programs (32-bit). They are in alphabetical order.

  4. In the dialog box, select the program you want to install.

  5. Optional: Click Details; A new dialog box describes licensing and whether the installation requires a reboot. Click OK; the dialog box closes.

  6. At the bottom of the Run Advertised Programs dialog box, click Run; a new dialog box appears.

  7. To have the program run automatically, check the box. To run the program manually, leave the box unchecked.

  8. Make sure all other programs are closed.

  9. Click Download. Small software packages may take a few minutes; large ones may take an hour. Some programs may require multiple reboots to install.

Mac


  1. In the Finder, click Go.

  2. Open the Applications folder.

  3. Go to Self Service.

  4. Login with your UW-Eau Claire username and password or by clicking log in anonymously.

If the program you want doesn't appear, contact the Help Desk at 715-836-5711 or email helpdesk@uwec.edu.

  1. Click the program icon. A pane appears with important information about the program, such as whether it may lock up your screen during the installation.

  2. Click Install. A frame at the top will show the progress.
