Quizzes are a way to assess students through D2L. You can write the questions, choose which questions are used in a particular quiz, and set up grading options. Read these directions or watch the Creating Quizzes video for help creating quizzes.

Creating Questions
Quiz questions should be created in the Question Library. From there they can easily be imported into D2L quizzes. The advantage of using the Question Library is that the same questions can be used in multiple quizzes and imported into quizzes containing random sections.
The D2L Quiz Question videos show how to create the five most commonly used quiz questions:
- Multiple Choice video (text version)
- Multi-Select video (text version)
- Fill in the Blanks video (text version)
- True or False video (text version)
- Short Answer video (text version)
To learn about how the questions you wish to import using Respondus should be formatted, view the Standard Format for Importing Questions documentation.

Deter Students from Cheating
Consider asking open-ended questions or assigning papers and projects rather than using multiple-choice exams as your major assessments. Multiple assessments and different assessment types also deter cheating. Contact CETL@uwec.edu to discuss additional strategies.
Quiz Question Re-grading
There may be a time when you wish to regrade a quiz after attempts have been made by students. Perhaps a question was poorly worded, and you wish to make two answers possible. Or, perhaps you accidentally marked the wrong answer as correct. In either case, it is possible to automatically regrade quiz questions and award the proper points to the students.
Note: After your students take a quiz, it is advisable to glance over the quiz attempts to make sure they look correct. If the majority of the class got one question wrong, it may indicate that the question was faulty or unclear.
Note: Correcting your quiz question(s) in the Question Library and in the quiz is a separate step. It is important to make the corrections so the questions are accurate when you copy the components of your course to future terms.
- In the desired course, click Quizzes in the navigation bar.
- Find the quiz you wish to edit. Click the black arrow next to the quiz name, and select Grade from the list.

- On the screen that opens, you will see all attempts by all the students in your course. At the top of the screen, click the Questions tab.

- Select the radio button next to Update All Attempts to ensure that once you make your changes, the grades of all students will be adjusted accordingly.
- Select from the list the question you wish to edit.
- On the screen that appears, you will see the number of students who chose each answer option. The answer option with the blue arrow to the left is marked as the correct answer. Below that, you will see the Grade section where you can make your changes.
- Look in the Grading Type section to view your options. You will see how much the question in worth in this section as well, which will most likely be relevant for adjusting points.
-
- If you wish to simply give all students credit for the question no matter which answer option was chosen, keep the Give to all attempts... option checked, and insert a point value in the blank provided.
Example:

- Or, if you wish to allow a second correct answer, check the Give to attempts with answer... option. From the dropdown menu, select the answer you wish to mark as correct (you can see how they are numbered above in the Quiz Responses section). Then, in the blank, insert the number of points you wish to award to the students.
Example:

- If you wish to simply give all students credit for the question no matter which answer option was chosen, keep the Give to all attempts... option checked, and insert a point value in the blank provided.
- When you are finished, press Save at the bottom of the screen. A confirmation will appear, asking if you are sure you wish to change the grade values of the students' attempts. Click Yes.
- After saving, you will remain on the same page. If you scroll down to the bottom, you will see the Modifications Log, which details all the changes you have made for the question.
- Click Go Back to Questions at the bottom of the screen to return to the question list. Click the Users tab to view the grade updates for each attempt.
Note: This process will also be helpful if you realize that you marked the wrong answer as correct in a quiz question. To rectify this, you must complete several steps. For example, when creating the quiz, you accidentally marked answer 1 as correct, but the answer should actually be answer 2. First you will have to give 0 points to those who chose answer 1. Then you will have to repeat the process to give 1 point to all who chose answer 2.
