Welcome to UW-Eau Claire's Virtual Lab Environment! This system allows students to access software titles from the general access labs on their personal computers from almost anywhere! While there are limits on software available due to licensing and technical constraints, most of the general access Windows software can be run on a virtual application on your local computer or iPad, without physically needing to visit the lab!
Requirements:
- Network connect speed of 756 kilobits or faster
- Supported computer or mobile operating system
See instructions for the following supported platforms:
Lab Anywhere for a Windows PC
Follow along with this process using the LTS video tutorial Lab Anywhere: Install and Use on a Windows PC.
Installing the Local Client
-
Open a web browser and navigate to https://virtual.uwec.edu, then click the View Client for Windows link.
You will see a page similar to that below.

-
Near the top of the list, you will see the VMware View Clients for both 32-bit Windows and 64-bit Windows. Next to the appropriate option, click View Download.
A screen similar to the one below will appear.

- Click Download at the bottom right of the screen.
- Click Run at the bottom of the screen.

- A window will appear asking if you want to allow the following program (VMware) to make changes to your computer. Click Yes.
-
Follow the installer steps to install the View Client. Click Next to advance through the installation. You will also need to accept the license agreement to continue.
Note: When you reach the License Agreement screen, you will have to select I accept the terms in the license agreement in order to continue.
Note: When you reach the Custom Setup window, you can leave the settings unchanged and click Next.

-
When you reach the Default View Connection Server window, type virtual.uwec.edu in the text box and click Next.

-
Choose your preferred set-up for the Enhanced Single Sign On default behavior and the Shortcuts to be installed and click Next.
-
VMware View is now ready to be installed. Click Install. The process will only take a minute or two.
-
A dialogue box will appear, asking you if you wish to restart your computer now or later. This must be done at some point in order to complete the installation. To restart your computer now, click Yes. To do it later, click No.

Running the Virtual Lab Client
-
Access the virtual lab by using an installed shortcut or going to virtual.uwec.edu in your browser.
-
If using a shortcut, make sure the Connection Server text box reads virtual.uwec.edu

-
Click Connect.
-
In the box that appears, type your UW-Eau Claire username and password.

-
Click Login.
-
Select which virtual machine you wish to use and click Connect.
Note: Students usually choose General Access Lab Computer.

Once you are connected, you will automatically be logged in. It is normal for this to take several minutes. You now have a Windows 7 instance that acts exactly like you were in one of our labs.
Warning: Just like in the lab, anything saved to the desktop or PC is lost when you exit. Always save to your network drive. This should be automatically mapped in the virtual machine.
