Along with having many general access computer labs with Internet access, UW-Eau Claire has made accessing the Internet even easier by making a wireless network available for faculty, staff, and students to use while on campus. Laptops that have wireless capabilities can connect to the Internet anywhere on campus that has the wireless signal. This document will guide you through the process of connecting to the wireless network on campus using Windows Vista.
If, after following these steps, you are unable to connect, please contact the Help Desk (836-5711).
From the Start menu
, select Control Panel
The Control Panel appears.
In the Classic View,
double-click NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER
The window refreshes to the Network and Sharing Center.
OR
In the Control Panel Home view, click NETWORK AND INTERNET
The window refreshes.
Click NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER
The window refreshes to the Network and Sharing Center.
Under Tasks, click MANAGE WIRELESS NETWORKS
The Manage wireless networks window appears.

Click ADD![]()
The Manually connect to a wireless network dialog box appears.
Select Manually create a network profile
The dialog box refreshes.
In the Network name text box, type UWECwireless
In the Security type pull down list, select No authentication (Open)
Select Start this connection automatically
HINT: The option is selected when a checkmark appears in the box.
Select Connect even if the network is not broadcasting
Click NEXT
The window refreshes.
Click CONNECT TO...
The dialog box refreshes and you are connected to the wireless network on campus.
You may need to register your wireless device on the network.
