This document contains information on connecting to a printer in Windows 2000. For information about canceling print jobs, refer to Clearing the Print Queue.
If you work in a network environment, you will want to connect to one or more printers. The Add Printer Wizard makes this process easy to do.
NOTE: These instructions assume that you know the network name of the printer you wish to add.
From the Start menu, select Settings » Printers
The Printers window appears.
Double click ADD PRINTER
The Add Printer Wizard dialog box appears.
Click NEXT
Select Network printer and click NEXT
Select Type the printer name, or click Next to browse for a printer
In the Name text box, type the name of the printer and click NEXT
NOTE: Printer names should be entered in the following format: \\print\printer-name
EXAMPLE: \\print\print01

To designate this as your default printer, click the appropriate radio button and click NEXT
Verify that the printer name and default setting is correct
If the information is incorrect, click BACK and repeat the necessary steps
If the information is correct, click FINISH
The network printer is added.
If your computer is not connected to a network, you will want to add a local printer. The Add Printer Wizard simplifies this process.
From the Start menu, select Settings » Printers
The Printers window appears.
Click ADD PRINTER
The Add Printer Wizard dialog box appears.
Click NEXT
Select Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer
Click NEXT
Follow the onscreen instructions
The local printer is added.
