Accessing the Internet via Cable Modem

In order to access the Internet with a cable modem, you must set up a Local Area Network (LAN):

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings » Network and Dial-Up Connections

  2. Right click LOCAL AREA CONNECTION

  3. Select Properties
    NOTE: If Local Area Connection is not listed, your Ethernet card is not installed properly.

  4. Select the General tab

  5. Verify that the list of installed components includes Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
    To add it if it is not present,
    1. Click INSTALL
    2. Select Protocol and click ADD
    3. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click OK
    4. To restart your computer and proceed to the next step, click YES

  6. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

  7. Click PROPERTIES
    The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box appears.

  8. Select Obtain IP address automatically

  9. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically

  10. Click OK
