Creating a Survey

The WebSurvey System provides a variety of tools which make creating and managing online surveys quick and efficient. The number of options available allows you to create a brief opinion poll or an in-depth research survey. This document will show you how to create a survey from scratch and how to build upon an existing survey.

  1. Login to the WebSurvey System

  2. On the toolbar, click NEW SURVEYNew Survey button
    OR
    Click CREATE NEW SURVEY Create New Survey button
    The Create Survey page appears.

  3. In the Title text box, type a title for your survey
    NOTES:
    This is a required field.
    This is the title respondents to your survey will see.

  4. Select From Scratch

  5. Click SAVE
    The Modify Survey page appears.

  6. To add a new question or survey item,
    1. Click INSERT
      The Create New Item page appears.
    2. From the Choose an Item Type pull-down list, select the type of question or item you want
      NOTES:
      For more information on item types, refer to About Question Types.
      The page refreshes with options specific to the question type you selected.
    3. Type the text and responses for your question
      HINTS:
      The export data alias should be brief and contain no unusual characters or spaces.
      Sub-text can be used for additional text such as "Select all that apply".
    4. Select the desired options for your question
    5. Click SAVE
      You are returned to the Modify Survey page.
      The question has been added.

  7. To add a question using a copy of an existing question or survey item,
    1. Click COPY EXISTING ITEM
      The Copy Existing Item page appears.

    2. From the Survey pull-down list, select the survey in which the item is located
    3. From the Item pull-down list, select the question or item you want to use
    4. Click CONTINUE
      The Modify Item page appears.
    5. Make any desired changes to the item
    6. Click SAVE
      You are returned to the Modify Survey page.
      The question has been added.

  8. To add a question using a Library item,
    1. Click INSERT FROM LIBRARY
      The Insert from Library page appears.

    2. From the Library pull-down list, select the Library in which the item is located
    3. From the Item pull-down list, select the question or item you want to use
      The Modify Item page appears.
    4. Make any desired changes to the item
    5. Click SAVE
      You are returned to the Modify Survey page.
      The question has been added.

  9. To delete a question,
    1. For the question you want to delete, click DELETE
      A confirmation dialog box appears.
    2. Click OK

  10. Rearrange questions as needed to achieve the desired order

  11. Add, delete, or move pages in your survey as needed to achieve the desired structure

  12. To preview your survey, from the Modify Survey page, click PREVIEW

  13. To save your survey to work on later, click DONE
    You are returned to the My Surveys page.

  14. When your survey is finished, continue with Launching Your Survey

Creating a Survey from an Existing Survey

Often a survey can be reused either with a different group of respondents or during a different time frame with minor modifications. In this case, creating a survey from an existing survey will save you time. The WebSurvey simply makes a copy of an existing survey which you then modify to fit your current needs.

  1. Login to the WebSurvey System

  2. On the toolbar, click NEW SURVEYNew Survey button
    OR
    Click CREATE NEW SURVEY Create New Survey button
    The Create Survey page appears.

  3. In the Title text box, type a title for your survey
    NOTES:
    This is a required field.
    This is the title respondents to your survey will see.

  4. Select From Existing

  5. From the Survey pull-down list select the survey you want to use in creating your new survey

  6. Click SAVE
    The Modify Survey page appears.

  7. To modify a question or survey item,
    1. For the item you want to modify, click EDIT
      The Modify Item page appears.
    2. Make any desired changes to the item
    3. Click SAVE
      You are returned to the Modify Survey page.
      The question has been added.

  8. To add a new question or survey item,
    1. Click INSERT
      The Create New Item page appears.

  10. To add a question using a Library item,

  11. To delete a question,
    1. For the question you want to delete, click DELETE
