You can use the PowerPoint feature called Pack and Go to "pack" up a presentation, large or small, for use on another computer. If you have checked out a laptop computer from Student Laptop Services Old Library (OL) 1142, this document will specifically instruct you on how to use PowerPoint's Pack and Go feature to transfer your presentation to the laptop. For more general instructions, see Pack and Go.
NOTE: This option is not available on Macintosh versions of PowerPoint.
Refer to the following tips to guarantee your success with PowerPoint Pack and Go.
Have several formatted disks on hand; when saving your presentation you may be asked to insert several disks.
Check that all of your presentation's images (excluding clip art found within PowerPoint) and linked files are saved on the same drive and in the same folder.
The following instructions will aid you in packing up your PowerPoint Presentation using Pack and Go Wizard.
Open the PowerPoint presentation you wish to save to the laptop
From the File menu, select Pack and Go...
The Pack and Go Wizard dialog box appears.

Click NEXT
To pack the currently open presentation, select Active presentation
Open the PowerPoint presentation you wish to save to the laptop
From the File menu, select Pack and Go...
The Pack and Go Wizard dialog box appears.
Click NEXT
Select Other presentation(s)
Click BROWSE...
The Select a presentation to package dialog box appears.
Using the Look in pull-down list and other navigational tools, locate and select the desired presentation
Click SELECT
NOTE: You may pack your current presentation along with other presentation(s) simultaneously by selecting all the presentations you want packed.
Click NEXT
To copy the presentation to a floppy disk, select the A:\ drive
You will want to have several formatted floppy disks on hand.
Click NEXT
OPTIONAL: To open the presentation's linked files on the destination computer, select Include linked files (See Tips for Using Pack and Go)
Make sure linked files are in the same directory as the presentation you are packing.
OPTIONAL: To ensure that the presentation's text will display correctly if the selected font is not installed on the destination computer, select Embed True Type fonts
Click NEXT
Select Don't include the Viewer
Laptops from OL 1142 already have the PowerPoint Viewer installed.
Click NEXT
Click FINISH
PowerPoint Pack and Go Wizard will now copy your presentation.
The following instructions will aid you in transferring your PowerPoint presentation onto a laptop.
Insert your first floppy disk
From the Start menu, select All Programs » Accessories » Windows Explorer
OR
Right click the START menu » select Explore
Windows Explorer opens.
In Windows Explorer on the left, click 3 1/2 FLOPPY (A:)
On this drive, PowerPoint has created a file called Pngsetup.exe.
Double click PNGSETUP.EXE file
The Pack and Go Setup dialog box appears.

In the Select destination folder area, select the destination that you want to copy your presentation to
Select the directory and/or folder name (e.g., H:\Profiles to unpack in the Profiles folder on the student directory or W:\cs to unpack in the cs folder on the
department directory)
NOTE: Make sure that the folder name has 8 or less characters and that there are no spaces between any characters
OR
If your laptop is not connected to a server, select C:\Temp\username (e.g., C:\Temp\doejr)
If the Temp folder does not exist, you will be prompted regarding whether or not to create one.
Click OK
PowerPoint will now install your presentation on the laptop.
If necessary, insert floppy disks as PowerPoint requests
The Pack and Go Setup dialog box will appear alerting you that the presentation was successfully installed and asking if you would like to run the presentation now.
To run the slide show presentation immediately, click YES
OR
To postpone opening the slide show presentation, click NO
From the Start menu, select All Programs » Accessories » Windows Explorer
OR
Right click the START menu » select Explore
Windows Explorer opens.
In Windows Explorer, open the drive that you saved your presentation on
Locate the presentation on that drive
To start the presentation, double click it
