PowerPoint allows you to apply bullets or numbering to any selected text. Bulleting and numbering is useful when creating lists or instructions.
To use this option, you must use the Formatting toolbar. For more information, refer to The Formatting Toolbar.
On the desired slide, select the text to which you want to add bullets or numbering
For a bulleted list, on the Formatting toolbar, click BULLETS![]()
For a numbered list, on the Formatting toolbar, click NUMBERING![]()
For a bulleted list, type an asterisk ( * ) where the list will begin
For a numbered list, type a letter or number (e.g., A, 1) and a period ( . ) where the list will begin
Type one space followed by the first list item text
Press [Enter]
For bulleted lists, the asterisk will turn into a bullet, and the next line will begin with a bullet.
For numbered lists, the next line will begin with the next letter or number (e.g., B, 2).
If the ruler is not already displayed, from the View menu, select Ruler
The ruler appears above the selected slide.
Select the bulleted or numbered text to be modified
At the top of the slide, adjust the left indent margin
until the desired spacing is achieved
To change the format of bullets or numbers, you must first access the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.
Select the bulleted or numbered text containing the bullets or numbers to be modified
OR
Place the insertion point where you want a bulleted or numbered list to appear
From the Format menu, select Bullets and Numbering...
The Bullets and Numbering dialog box appears.
Select the Bulleted tab

Select the desired bullet style
To change the size of the bullets, in the Size text box, type the desired value
To change the color of the bullets, from the Color pull-down list, select the desired color
HINT: For more information about colors in PowerPoint, refer to Using the Colors Dialog Box.
Click OK
Click OK
To select from different fonts and characters,
Click OK
Click OK
The bullet format is modified.
Select the Numbered tab

Select the desired numbering style
To change the size of the numbering, in the Size text box, type the desired value
To change the color of the numbering, from the Color pull-down list, select a color
HINT: For more information about colors in PowerPoint, refer to Using the Colors Dialog Box.
To change the beginning number for your list, in the Start at text box, type the desired number
Click OK
The numbering format is modified.
