The Outlook Webmail Toolbars

Outlook Webmail provides you with two toolbars to complete most common tasks. The common toolbar appears the same no matter what view of Webmail is displayed, while the context-relative toolbar displays different options relative to the current view.

The common toolbar allows you to search for contacts, view another Webmail account or sign out of your own account, and provides access to the Options view.

Button Name Function
Address Book icon Address Book Accesses the Address Book, which includes the campus directory and your Contacts, and allows you to search for individuals' contact information
Search text box Search Searches the campus directory and your Contacts without opening the Address Book
Options icon Options Accesses the Options view, allowing you to customize various Outlook Webmail features
Open Other Mailbox icon and popup Open Other Mailbox Allows you to access the mailbox of another user who has granted you the appropriate permission; it opens in a separate window

return to topThe Context-Relative Toolbar

The context-relative toolbar allows you to create new messages, contacts, or appointments, as well as to change display options or check your mail. The options available in this toolbar will change according to which view is displayed, but the table below explains the options available in the Mail view.

Context-relative toolbar: Mail View options

New icon New  Creates a new message
New pull-down list New pull-down list Creates new messages, appointments, meeting requests, Contacts, and Tasks
Show/Hide Reading Pane pull-down list Show/Hide Reading Pane pull-down list Displays message text in a split screen, which can be placed in a right frame, a bottom frame, or turned off completely
Single Line iconMultiple Line icon Single Line/Multiple Line Displays listed messages on one or two lines, allowing you to see more items or more information about each item in the viewing window
NOTE: This is a toggle button which only displays the option not currently selected.
Delete icon Delete  Deletes selected messages by placing them in your Deleted Items folder
Check Messages icon Check Messages Checks your Inbox for new messages
Reply icon Reply Creates a reply to the sender of a selected message
Reply to All icon Reply to All Creates a reply to all recipients of a selected email
Forward icon Forward Sends a duplicate of a selected message to someone
