Working with Attachments

Outlook Webmail allows you to share files with your email correspondents through the use of attachments. This document discusses accessing email attachments, attaching files, and deleting attachments using Outlook Webmail.

Often, you will receive messages that will have files attached for you to view using Word, Notepad, Excel, or other programs. Most attachments can be accessed directly, but some attachments must first be saved to your disk before opening them. If this is the case, a pop-up window will appear alerting you to this. Refer to Saving Attachments for instructions on saving an attachment to your disk.

  1. If the Reading Pane is displayed, in the Folder Contents area, select the message containing the attachment
The message content is displayed in the Reading Pane.
    OR
If the Reading Pane is not displayed, in the Folder Contents area, double click the message containing the attachment
The message appears in a new window.
NOTE: If you are using Internet Explorer 7, depending on the options you have set, the message may appear in a new tab.

  2. Click the attachment you want to open
The File Download dialog box appears.
