Scanning Text with OmniPage
OmniPage Professional is an optical character recognition (OCR) program that lets you convert printed material into both text and graphics on an electronic file (for more control over graphics, use DeskScan). For best results, the original should be of laser quality with no hand writing on it.
Getting Started

From the Apple menu, select OmniPage Professional

At the scanner, place your graphic face down on the scanner copy board
HINT: Use the red triangle, select Scan Image -
From the Process menu, select Scan Image

From the Settings menu, select Settings Panel
HINT: On the left side of the Settings Panel dialog box are icons that will enable you to create appropriate document settings. -
To close the window, in the upper left corner of the window, click CLOSE
Saving
When you are satisfied with the scan, save it to your diskette.

To save your graphic to your diskette, click FINAL
OR
From the File menu, select Save As ... -
In the File name text box, type the filename

From the File Format drop-down menu, choose the appropriate image format

Click SAVE
Once the graphic is on your diskette you can add it to other programs. It can also be edited using a graphics program.
Optional Steps
OmniPage will recognize most text. Unrecognized characters will appear as a tilde (~).
- If the Button toolbar is not showing, from the View menu, select Show Toolbar
To view the words that OmniPage considers incorrect, follow the instructions below:
- From the Button toolbar, click the CHECK OCR button (the button with the eyeglasses)
Unrecognized words will appear in a separate window to the right of the scanned text window.
You may edit your text using the Edit, Format, and Font menus at the top of the screen.
Quitting OmniPage
- To quit the program, from the File menu, select Quit
