Dialup Instructions for Macintosh OS 8.0 or Higher

If you are using a dialup connection to connect to UW-Eau Claire, there are certain settings that need to be configured prior to doing so.

  1. From the Apple menu, select Control Panels

  2. If you are using Mac OS 8.6 or higher, select Remote Access
    If you are using Mac OS 8.1, select PPP

  3. In the Name field, type your username

  4. In the Password field, type in your password

  5. In the Number field, type the phone number indicated by your service provider

  6. Close the Remote Access or PPP window

  1. From the Apple Menu, select Control Panels

  2. Select TCP/IP

  3. In the Connect via: field, select PPP

  4. In the Configure field, select Using PPP Server

  5. In the Search domains: text box, type uwec.edu

  6. Close the window
    A dialog box appears, asking you to save your settings.

  7. Click YES

Connecting to the Internet

  1. From the Apple Menu, select Control Panels

  2. If you are using Mac OS 8.6 or higher, select Remote Access
    If you are using Mac OS 8.1, select PPP

  3. In the Password text box, type your password

  4. Click CONNECT
    Your modem should then begin connecting to the network. Once connected, you can use any of your Internet applications (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.).

Disconnecting from the Internet

  1. Close all of your Internet applications
    WARNING: Do not close the Remote Access or PPP window.

  2. If you closed the Remote Access or PPP window, follow steps 1-2 of Connecting to the Internet to reopen it

  3. Click DISCONNECT
    NOTES:
    Dial-up quotas are in effect. It is important that you disconnect from your dial-up session when you are finished so you do not exceed your quota and temporarily lose dial-up privileges.
