Configuring a Charter Pipeline Cable Modem for Mac OS 8.0 or Higher

This document will explain how to configure a Charter Pipeline cable modem for Mac OS 8.0 or higher. Any questions concerning this procedure should be directed to the LTS Help Desk (836-5711 or helpdesk@uwec.edu). The sections of this document should generally be accessed in the following order:

  1. From the Apple menu, select Control Panels
    The Control Panel appears.

  2. If you are using Mac OS 8.6 or higher, select Remote Access
    If you are using Mac OS 8.1, select PPP
    NOTE: Although the names are different, the instructions for the setup are the same.
    The Remote Access or PPP dialog box appears.

  3. In the Name text box, type your username

  4. In the Password text box, type your password

  5. In the Number text box, type the phone number indicated by your service provider

  6. Close the Remote Access or PPP window

  1. From the Apple menu, select Control Panels
    The Control Panel appears.

  2. Select TCP/IP
    The TCP/IP dialog box appears.

  3. From the Connect via pull-down list, select Ethernet

  4. In the Setup section, from the Configure pull-down list, select Using DHCP Server

  5. In the Search domains text box, type uwec.edu

  6. Close the TCP/IP window
    Remote Access/PPP and TCP/IP are configured on your machine and you can connect to the UW-Eau Claire server.
