Connecting to VPN Client

VPN (Virtual Private Network) Client software restricts off-campus access to UW-Eau Claire network resources to UW-Eau Claire users while providing a secure, encrypted network connection.

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences...
    The System Preferences pane appears.

  2. From the Internet & Network section, click NETWORKNetwork button
    The Network dialog box appears.

  3. In the lower left corner, click CREATE A NEW SERVICECreate a New Service button
    A secondary dialog box appears.

  4. From the Interface pull-down menu, select VPN
    The dialog box refreshes.

  5. From the VPN Type pull-down menu, select PPTP

  6. In the Service Name text box, type in the desired name
    EXAMPLE: UWEC VPN

  7. Click CREATE
    The Network dialog box refreshes.

  8. From the Configuration pull-down menu, select Add Configuration...
    A second dialog box appears.

  9. In the Name text box, type Other

  10. Click CREATE
    You are returned to the Network dialog box.

  11. In the Server Address text box, type vpn.uwec.edu

  12. In the Account Name text box, type the administrator name for your Macintosh

  13. OPTIONAL: Select Show VPN status on menu bar
    NOTE: The option is selected when a checkmark appears.

  14. Click AUTHENTICATION SETTINGS...
    A secondary dialog box appears.

  15. Select Password

  16. In the text box, type your university username

  17. Click OK
    You are returned to the Network dialog box.

  18. Click APPLY

  19. Click CONNECT
    The VPN connection will now be authenticated and you can proceed with mapping your drive.
    NOTES:
    The connection may not work if you have a router that prohibits you from connecting to VPN Client.
    It is recommended that you disconnect from the VPN Client as soon as you are finished using UW-Eau Claire's network resources.
