Telnet Basics with QVT/Term for Windows

Telnet is used for interactive sessions, such as searching a library catalog or database. The program QVT/Term is used to connect to campus mainframe computing resources with Windows. This Quick Start will show you how to connect to VAX (Tiny) (you are required to have an account) and NOTIS (the UWEC online library catalog) using QVT/TERM.

  1. To open Telnet, double click the QVT/TERM icon

  2. From the File menu, select Open...
    The Open Session dialog box will appear.

  3. In the Open Session dialog box, under Configuration, select cnsvax
    If the site is not listed, in the Host Name or IP Address dialog box, type cnsvax.uwec.edu

  4. Click OK

  5. Respond to the initial prompts with your username and password

Disconnecting

  1. Return to the VAX $ prompt by typing exit or pressing [Ctrl]+[Z]

  2. Log off by typing lo
    If the QVT/TERM Open Session dialog box does not close upon logging off, from the File menu, select Exit
