UWEC Wireless Network

Registering Your Wireless Device

UW-Eau Claire asks that you register wireless devices (e.g., your personally owned laptop) before using them on the UWEC wireless network. This process allows us to associate you with your device. We do not monitor nor track communications on the network. However, if other users are experiencing difficulty and a specific device is causing the difficulty, we know whom to contact.

Faculty, staff, and students may use the wireless network without registering in order to access email and network drives.

You will be asked to register your wireless device in the following situations:

  1. Connect to the wireless network (Win XP | Win Vista)
    The first time that you attempt to access resources outside of the UWEC domain, the Network Registration page appears.

  2. Under Login, in the User text box, type your UWEC username

  3. In the Password text box, type your password

  4. Click LOGIN
    The Automatic Network Registration page appears.

  5. Click I AGREE TO THE GUIDELINES
    The Thank You! Page appears.

  6. Reboot your device

If you will no longer be using the UWEC wireless network with a device that is registered on it, it is a good idea to unregister the device. An example of a time you would want to unregister a device would be if you sell your laptop.

  1. Go to networking.uwec.edu
    The Network Registration page appears.

  2. Under Login, in the User text box, type your UWEC username

  3. In the Password text box, type your password

  4. Click LOGIN
    The Technical Services – Network Support page appears.

  5. Under Network Registration, click VIEW REGISTERED
    A list of the devices registered to your username appear.

  6. Click UNREGISTER MAC
    NOTES:
    The MAC Unregistration page appears.
    The MAC addresses for the listed devices are now linked.
    MAC stands for media access control.

  7. Click the MAC address of the device you want to unregister
    The device is unregistered.
