Printing Color Documents Faster

Printing color documents from the internet on a color printer can be time consuming. Printing the document in black and white is a great option to quickly print the document. Your options for changing the printer to printing black and white will vary depending on your printer drive. This document will, therefore, take a generalized approach to printing color pages faster using a color printer and will provide an idea of what you should be looking for.

Here are some generalized steps to print a colored web page in black and white from Netscape using a color printer. Due to different printers, these steps may vary slightly and the dialog box may be different from the one discussed below. 

HINT: Selecting this option may be advisable even if you are printing a black and white document since many color printers will print a black and white document as if it were color. Color printers use a combination of color ink to make black, thus causing it to take a long time to print.

  1. Under the File menu, select Print...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  2. In the Name: pull-down list, select desired printer

  3. Click PROPERTIES...
    The specified printer Document Properties dialog box appears.

  4. With the Paper/Quality  or similar tab selected, under Color, select Black & White

  5. Click OK
    The Print dialog box reappears.

  6. Complete the options as appropriate 

  7. Click OK

Another way to adjust the printing speed of color documents would be to alter the printer quality settings. As with the above steps, there are different printer drives, thus necessitating the need to follow these steps as a very general guide.

Netscape

  1. Under the File menu, select Print...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  2. In the Name: pull-down list, select desired printer

  3. Click PROPERTIES...
    The specified printer Document Properties dialog box appears.

  4. With the Paper/Quality  or similar tab selected, under Quality Settings, select desired low quality setting
    NOTE: The lower quality the setting the faster it will print.

  5. Click OK
    The Print dialog box reappears.

  6. Complete the options as appropriate 

  7. Click OK

Internet Explorer

  1. Under the File menu, select Print...
    The Print dialog box appears.

  2. Select desired printer

  3. With the Paper/Quality or similar tab selected, under Quality Settings, select desired low quality setting
