Students, faculty, and staff can securely access their H: drives from any web browser in the world. Two methods are explained in this document. The one you choose will depend on your needs at the time.
NOTE: You do not need a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection when using these methods to access your H: drive. For more information about VPN, refer to VPN FAQs.
This method provides Internet access to your H: drive and is a read-only method. It allows you to view your H: drive files and download them using an Internet browser; however, you cannot save your changes back onto your H: drive. This method will work from almost any web browser on any operating system, such as Windows or Macintosh. If you want to make changes and save files back to your H: drive, you must use the read/write method.
Open a web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape)
Type the appropriate URL:
Faculty: https://staff.uwec.edu
Students: https://students.uwec.edu
DeptDir (W: drive): https://cass1.uwec.edu/deptdir
The Connect to dialog box appears.
In the User name text box, type your username@uwec.edu or UWEC\username
HINT: If one does not work, try the other.
In the Password text box, type your password
Click OK
A directory listing of your files and folders appears.

This method provides Internet access to your H: drive and is a read/write method. You can open, edit, save, create new, and delete files just as if they were in a folder on your local computer. This method allows you to access your H: drive files and save your changes back onto the H: drive. Once the files and folders appear, you can use the window similar to an ordinary Windows Explorer window. Specifically, you can drag and drop files from your computer to your H: drive.
This method currently works in Windows only with the most recent version of Internet Explorer. However, it is supported on all versions of Internet Explorer from 4.0 and later.
