Table Properties Pane

The Table Properties pane is visible at the bottom of your screen when you have selected a table. It is used to adjust table settings and has four views: Table, Row, Column, and Cell. Each of these views is used to control the table settings relevant to the selected area. The Table view uses the entire Properties pane; however, the Row, Column, and Cell views are displayed in the bottom half of the Text Properties pane at the bottom of your screen.

The Table Properties pane will be displayed when an entire table is selected. To display the Table Properties pane:

  1. Right click within the table » select » Table » Select Table
    The Table Properties pane appears, and the entire table is selected.

Elements of the Table Properties Pane

The individual elements of the Table Properties pane allow you to view and change the attributes of your table.

Section
Purpose
Table ID
 Identifies the table name
Table Rows and Columns
 Indicates the number of rows and columns in the table
Table width and height
 Specifies the width and height of the table in either pixels or as a percentage of the web page
Cell pad
 Specifies the amount of space (in pixels) between cell content and the cell borders
Cell space
 Specifies the amount of space (in pixels) between the cells
Align pull-down list
 Specifies the table alignment relative to the page
NOTE: Text within the table is not affected by this alignment.
Border text box
 Specifies the width of the table border (the smaller the number, the narrower the border)
Table size options
 Adjusts table size by clearing all specified size settings from the table
Table settings in pixels
 Converts the table measurements from percent to the equivalent size measured in pixels
Table settings in percentages
 Converts the table measurements from pixels to the equivalent size measured as a percentage of the web page
Background Color
 Specifies the background color for the table
Border Color
 Specifies the border color for the table
Background Image
 Specifies the background image for the table

return to topThe Row, Column, and Cell Properties Panes

The Row, Column, and Cell Properties panes look almost identical to the Table Properties pane. The main difference for each property pane is that the changes impact the selected cells, columns, or rows instead of the entire table.

To display the Row, Column, or Cell Properties panes, you must first select the area relevant to that property.

To display the Cell Properties pane:

  1. Select the cell by clicking in it
    The Cell Properties pane appears below the Text Properties pane.

To display the Row or Column Properties pane:

  1. Click and hold your mouse within an outer cell of the row or column

  2. To select the row or column, drag the mouse pointer over the row or column entirely

  3. Release the mouse button
    The row or column is selected, and the Row Properties pane or Column Properties pane appears below the Text Properties pane.

Split or merge cells
 Merges or splits cells
Horizontal and Vertical align
 Aligns text within the cells accordingly
Width and Height
Specifies the width of the column and height of the row
Cell Wrap
 When checked, this indicates that the text in the cell should not wrap to the next line
NOTE: If the length of text is longer than the table width, the text with expand the width of the table when this option is selected.
Cell Header
 When checked, this indicates a selected cell or group of cells as heading cells
Background Color
 Specifies the background color for the cell(s)
Border Color
 Specifies the border color for the cell(s)
Background Image
 Specifies the background image for the cell(s)
