Classified Staff News

Classified Floating Legal Holidays

During 2006, classified staff will have two floating legal holidays, December 24 and December 31.  These holidays fall on Sundays and are followed by Monday holidays.  Employees will be able to use these two legal holidays any time during 2006, and must use them by December 30, 2006 or the hours will be lost.  When using floating legal holidays, use the code LH on timesheets.

  • Full-time employees: the legal holiday balance on earnings statements will reflect a negative balance after using the hours, until the hours are actually earned.

  • Part-time employees: the legal holiday balance on earnings statements already includes the two holidays.

December 25, 2006 and January 1, 2007 are legal holidays.

The university will be closed.

Timesheets Online

Classified , WPEC , and LTE timesheets, along with pay schedules , may be found on Human Resources' Web site.  When using online timesheets, please access them from Internet Explorer so you are using the most current file.  NOTE: timesheets are due in HR by noon on the second Thursday of the pay period.  Be sure to print timesheets on the appropriate color paper.

Unclassified Staff News

Unclassified Floating Holidays

During the 2006-2007 fiscal year, there are two legal holidays (December 24, 2006 and December 31, 2006) that fall on Sundays.  Unclassified staff who earn vacation are eligible to use these days at another time (floating holidays).  The legal holiday hours will be added to the floating holiday balance at the time they are earned.  You may anticipate the use of these legal holidays, and the leave report may show a negative balance until December/January.  These legal holidays must be used by June 30, 2007; there is no provision to carry them into the next fiscal year or to include them with your annual leave reserve hours.

Please note: December 25, 2006 and January 1, 2007 are legal holidays that fall on Mondays.  When a legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the university is closed the following Monday and "floating time" is accumulated.  Contact Sue Pettis at 36-2018 or e-mail pettissl with questions.

 Unclassified Leave Statements

Academic year unclassified employees will receive the first monthly leave statement for the academic year on or about 10/01/06.  Please remember to complete it and send it to your supervisor each month within five days of receipt.  Those employees with a 2006 summer session appointment will receive a leave statement on or about 9/01/06 covering the summer session.  If you are missing a previous report, you may access a generic statement on Human Resources' Website in the forms section.  Refer questions to Sue at 36-2018 or e-mail pettissl.

Student Payroll News

 Student Payroll Deadlines

Timesheets are due in the Human Resources office by noon every other Friday (unless otherwise noted).  Please refer to the Student Payroll Calendar on HR's Web site at http://www.uwec.edu/hr/student.HTM.  Fridays and Mondays are important days in the student payroll cycle.  Student employee payroll forms are due the Monday prior to submitting a timesheet.  These forms include I-9, W-4, paycheck distribution forms, and online eligibility.  All forms may be found on HR's Web site by clicking on "Student Payroll Information" in the Payroll & Benefits section.  Refer questions to Stacie Moyer at 36-5260 or moyers.

The academic year eligibility session begins August 27, 2006 and ends May 19, 2007.  Please make sure ALL student workers have a new academic year eligibility form on file before submitting their first academic year timesheet.  Please refer to Human Resources' Web site http://www.uwec.edu/hr/student.HTM for the payroll schedule. NOTE:  Effective June 1, 2006, the new minimum wage for student employees is $6.50/hr.

International Students

All newly-hired international student employees need to make an appointment to see Stacie Moyer (e-mail moyers) to complete their payroll forms (i.e. I-9, tax forms including tax treaty forms).  Supervisors should enter the student's online eligibility form as soon as they want to start the employment process.  International students must not begin working until they have received approval from the Center for International Education to work on campus and completed forms with Stacie.

Selective Service Compliance Policy
When hiring new student employees - males (between the ages of 18 and not yet 26) must be registered with Selective Service.  Supervisors can check the BLUGOLD SYSTEM to see if a student has complied with this requirement.  If not, they must complete a Selective Service Compliance Form which may be found on Human Resources' Web site.  Refer questions to Stacie Moyer at 36-5260 or moyers.
