Package for CD

It is a common practice to copy a PowerPoint presentation in order to open it on another computer. PowerPoint's Package for CD feature automatically includes your linked files and the PowerPoint Viewer to ensure your presentation will operate on virtually any computer.

Using Package for CD

The PowerPoint Package for CD dialog box will assist you with packing up your presentation. You can send your packaged presentation to either a CD or a new folder on your computer. If you want to add security to your presentation, you can specify passwords to open the file and/or modify the file.

Using Package for CD: Copying to a CD

Open the PowerPoint presentation you wish to save
From the File menu, select Package for CD...
The Package for CD dialog box appears.
In the Name the CD text box, type a name for your disc
NOTE: This will not change the name of your presentation, only the name for the CD.
In the Files to be copied section, verify that the desired presentation is selected
NOTE: By default, your linked files are included.
To include files not linked to in your presentation,
1. Click ADD FILES...
  The Add Files dialog box appears.
2. Using the Look in pull-down list, locate and select the desired file(s)
3. Click ADD
  The Package for Cd dialog box refreshes, showing the file(s) you've added
OPTIONAL: To specify a password for the presentation,
1. Click OPTIONS...
  The Options dialog box appears.
2. From the Help protect the PowerPoint files section, in the Password to open each file text box, type the desired password
3. In the Password to modify each file text box, type the desired password
4. Click OK
Click COPY TO CD
The progress is displayed in a dialog box.
When all files have been copied, a dialog box appears, asking whether you want to copy the files to another CD.
To repeat the process with another CD, click YES
If you are satisfied with the number of CD's already used, click NO
The Package for CD dialog box reappears.
Click CLOSE

Using Package for CD: Copying to a Folder

Open the PowerPoint presentation you wish to save
From the File menu, select Package for CD...
The Package for CD dialog box appears.
OPTIONAL: To specify a password for the presentation,
1. Click OPTIONS...
  The Options dialog box appears.
2. From the Help protect the PowerPoint files section, in the Password to open each file text box, type the desired password
3. In the Password to modify each file text box, type the desired password
4. Click OK
Click COPY TO FOLDER...
The Copy to Folder dialog box appears.
NOTE: PowerPoint creates a new folder for the presentation and files.
In the Folder name text box, type a name for the new folder which will contain the presentation
In the Location text box, type the path where the folder is to be created
OR
To select a location,
1. Click BROWSE...
  The Choose Location dialog box appears.
2. Using the Look in pull-down list, navigate to the desired location
3. Click SELECT
Click OK
The presentation and files are copied to the specified location.
Click CLOSE

Viewing a Packaged Presentation

If you have saved your PowerPoint presentation to a CD, insert it
From the Start menu, select All Programs » Accessories » Windows Explorer
OR
Right click the START menu » select Explore
Windows Explorer opens.
In Windows Explorer, open the drive or folder where you saved your presentation
Double click PPTVIEW.EXE
The PowerPoint Viewer dialog box appears.
Click ACCEPT
The Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer dialog box appears.
Select the presentation to be viewed
Click OPEN
The slide show begins.
