This
facade is divided
horizontally into two major zones that are different yet relate to each other.
The lower zone rises 1-2 stories and serves as the visual base for the "shaft",
or upper zone. Its characteristic features are verticality, and a prominent
and unified upper zone. This style was widely used for office buildings,
department stores, hotels, and occasionally, public and institutional
buildings.
