Architectural References

Architectural books tend to discuss houses on the East and West coasts and in large cities. Developments in the Midwest, and especially small towns, like Eau Claire, are rarely studied and written about. To overcome this shortcoming, I designed a course in 1978 on the Settlement Geography of Eau Claire in which students collected data on houses in the city. This field data and my own research were used to modify the national information on house types. The following references were especially useful in preparing this guide.
