And the answers are . . .
Along East
Polk Avenue, from State to Patton, houses were built shortly after World
War II, reflected, in part, by the single-car detached (mostly) garages and
with driveways in the front of the houses (not in the alleyways as in the
pre-WWII areas). This is a transition landscape between the pre-auto
landscape and the auto era with its need for "machine space" of double-car
driveways and double-car garages.

Along East
Polk Avenue, from Patton to Nimitz, houses are newer than in the State
to Patton block, shown by larger houses and lots and the double-car
attached garages. "Machine space" of double-car driveways and double-car
garages dominate this landscape.

Along Chippewa
Street, from 7th to 5th Avenues, houses date from the late-19th
century when alleys provided access to garages and work sheds. This is a
human landscape with "machine space" hidden out of sight in the back
of the houses.
| X1 | Upright-and-Wing houses predominate along this street -- the Upright is always 2 stories high and the Wing ranges from 1 to 2 stories |
