Houses of rough concrete blocks imitating stone were unique to the 1900-1920s
when they were widely advocated by pattern books as a novel building
method. These houses are very cool in the summer but require more heating
in the winter. Only 16 houses in Eau Claire are completely built out
of this material and over 40% were built from 1900-09.
