Thin wooden clapboard, which is about 3 inches in width, characterizes
older houses of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many of these houses have
been modernized with stucco (1920-1930s) or aluminum siding
(1950s - present) in order to avoid painting the exteriors every five
years.
A
map of Eau Claire shows the highest
concentration of
thin clapboard in the oldest neighborhoods.
