Chimneys
were located at the end of houses when fireplaces were the only sources of
heating and cooking. With the uses of furnaces this location was retained
more for appearance than function necessity. In fact, some house styles
have two end chimneys: one functional, the other other decorative to create
a symmetrical appearance.
Compare this chimney location with central ones.
