the population of Eau Claire grew steadily, reflected by improved public
transportation, e.g., electric streetcars were introduced.
1880s-1890s | Queen Anne architecture dominated Eau Claire housing styles. |
1880 | The city had 10,000 people and Minneapolis had 40,000. Eau Claire had more than 100 saloons. |
1885 | The Opera House was built and held over 1,500 people. |
1888 | Public water works were put to use. |
1889 | Chinese families ran laundries (at S. Farwell & the Eau Claire
River) until 1902. Electric streetcars were first used. |
