Eau Claire: 1880

In the 1880s, the population of Eau Claire grew steadily, reflected by improved public transportation, e.g., electric streetcars were introduced.

1880s-1890s

Queen Anne architecture dominated Eau Claire housing styles.

1880

The city had 10,000 people and Minneapolis had 40,000.
Eau Claire had more than 100 saloons.

1885

The Opera House was built and held over 1,500 people.

1888

Public water works were put to use.

1889

Chinese families ran laundries (at S. Farwell & the Eau Claire River) until 1902.  
Electric streetcars were first used.
