Eau Claire's
lumber industry continued to grow during the 1870s. There were 45 lumber
mills producing 300 board feet annually. Eau Claire City, the Village
of Eau Claire, and North Eau Claire were incorporated into one city.
Also, transportation was improved with the introduction of the Western
Wisconsin Railroad.

| 1873 | Eau Claire's City Hall was constructed. |
| 1875 | Forty-five lumber mills were producing 300 million board feet annually. |
| 1878 | Dell's Dam was constructed on the Chippewa river near the sorting logs of Dell's Pond. |
| 1879 | The first telephone exchange had 10 subscribers. Eau Claire was the third city in the state to have horse drawn street cars. About 500 passengers per day were moved. |
