Compared to the U.S. data, Eau Claire has a larger percentage of its
housing stock from the 19th century. While Eau Claire suffered from
the collapse of the lumber industry in the early 20th century, the U.S. was
adding numerous new houses. By the 1920-1930s Eau Claire's economy
was
doing better than the national economy, but after WWII the local economy lagged
behind the U.S. Relatively few 1970s houses occur in Eau Claire because
not all of these houses have been surveyed yet.
