One-to-three
room houses increased each decade until they peaked in the 1920s and then
declined thereafter, hitting an all-time low in the 1950s. On the other
hand, four-room houses with a kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms only
appeared with any frequency in the 1920s and especially during the
1940s.
