The percentage of the population of Eau Claire who reported their
ancestry as more than one ethnicity were coded by the US 2000 Census as
having "multiple ancestry." Multiple ancestry means that the individual
household reported their ethnicity as either two or three separate
nationalities. Even though there is a separate map for the multiple
ancestry variable, each household was coded as having only one
nationality, usually the first reported, to establish a census of the
patterns of dominant nationality. For example, if a person reported
their nationality as :"English Irish Dutch" they would be coded as
having a multiple ancestry, but for simplicity's sake would be more
generally coded as just "English." Refer to the "First Claimed Ancestry"
maps to see patterns of ethnicity in Eau Claire.-- The areas around
the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire have lower levels of multiple
ancestry, possibly due to the underreporting of ancestry in general.
Refer to the "Ancestry Not Reported" map to see how these two correlate.
