The
maps displayed below show the number of people who get to work by
carpooling, bicycling, using public transportation, driving alone, and
people who work at home or rather do not commute at all.
It was difficult to map the amount of people who walk to work, but
what was found was that the majority of walkers are in the third ward
area suggesting that they are either students, professors, or
environmentalists.
In the first map we have the amount of people who carpool to work.
In the higher value areas we can see that people in the Westside, North
River Fronts, Third Ward and Putnam heights have the highest numbers of
people that carpool to work from about 140 people to 187 people
carpooling in these areas.
In the second map we see the amount of people who use public
transportation to get to work. The highest value areas show that
the Central Business District, Third Ward and areas surrounding the
University contain the highest numbers of people who use public
transportation to work. This suggests that University students and
people lacking monetary means are taking advantage of Eau Claire's
public transportation system the most. It also suggests that there
are high numbers of environmentalists and Professors who are doing the
same. There are also higher numbers in the portion of Putnam
Heights closer to the Chippewa River as well as the Westside.
In the map next to the previous we see similar tendencies among
people who bike to work suggesting that similar people as listed above
are opting to bike rather than drive to work. The largest
difference between these two maps is that the amount of people who use
public transportation is higher than those who bike. Less people
bike in the further distanced areas such as Putnam Heights and the
Westside.
The fourth map displayed shows the number of people who work at home
and do not commute or transport to work at all. A majority of
these people are found in the Third Ward, Putnam Heights and Ex-Urban
areas above Dell's Pond and below Putnam Heights.
In our last map we see that the largest amounts of people who drive
alone to work are in the Third Ward, Putnam Heights, above Dell's Pond,
and in the Ex-Urban areas around Eau Claire. |
