Eau Claire: Percentage of Households recieving Public Assistance Incomes

People receiving public assistance are people who are or recently have been homeless, single mothers and families in extreme poverty as well as adults and children with disabilities.

Displayed here is the percentage of households receiving public assistance.  Areas with the highest percentage of people receiving public assistance reside in the inner city (on both sides of the Chippewa River as well as above the Eau Claire River), Shawtown (areas on the far left), and in the suburb areas in the top right corner and lower left corner.  The highest of these percentages of about seven percent are in Shawtown and the inner city areas around the rivers.  This suggests that the poorer communities in Eau Claire reside in these areas.
