Florewood
Plantation
Near Greenwood, MS, lies the Florewood River Plantation State
Park.
The
buildings on this 1850s plantation reflect a well-to-do planter who cultivated
100 acres with 50-60 slaves in the fertile Delta land. Each
of the many buildings
had distinctive functions, which are shown and described on the attached
pages. The buildings on a plantation was divided into
domestic space and
work space.
What differentiates these two
plantation
spaces?

1) domestic space: fewer and smaller buildings, except
the planter's
mansion
2) work space: more and larger buildings
