Florewood
Plantation Carriage House
Ladies and gentlemen walked along the brick path to prevent
their shoes and clothing from getting dirty on the way to the carriage house.
The carriages themselves were stored elsewhere. This building also housed
the tutor, who taught the planter's children.
Why did the tutor,
as an educated person, live in such a humble
place?

Answer:
- tutors were employees, only one step above servants, and certainly
not on a social par with the planter's family
