Florewood
Plantation Overseer's House
From the planters point of view, the overseers were the most
important persons on the plantations because they assured that the slaves
performed the necessary work on time. Frequently, the overseers were white
men; occassionally they were slaves. (The slave quarters are seen on the
right-hand side.)
What evidence indicates that Forewood had a white
overseer?
What is the style of this building
called?

Answers:
- a brick pathway leads to the overseer's well-built house
- the overseer's privy can be seen through the opening in the house
--if
you are still in doubt that the overseer was white, check
out the interior
- this is a dog-trot house--one room on either side of an open breezeway
