Florewood
Plantation Mule Barn
Mules and horses were kept in this barn.
Why were mules
only used in southern agriculture and not in northern
agriculture?

Answer:
- horses are superior to mules, but horses require better feed, cooler
climate, and greater skill. In the hot, humid South with its poor pastures,
lack of grains, and a reluctant slave labor force, mules were
an ideal draft animal for planters.
