Plantation
Cotton Gin
Cotton, the major crop of southern plantation agriculture, was
ginned. That is, seeds were separated from the cotton, then sent to the lint
room
for cleaning, and then taken to a cotton press. Bales of cotton were taken
to the dock landings on the major rivers where
riverboats
went to the cotton
ports, such as Memphis and New Orleans.
